One of the UK's cities of culture, Manchester's Northern Quarter and surrounding areas are filled with interesting art, faddy hipster vintage shops and an abundance of fucking avocado and sourdough. In this album, you'll see shots from around the city, as well as a visit to Salford Lads Club, a beacon of Mancunian youth that has passed 23,000 people through its doors. It is famous due to a Smiths album cover that set the youth club's financial future in stone. Hence, the Smiths room.
If you've ever been to Prague, you'll feel a sense of deja-vu in Budapest. It is a surprisingly expansive city, with an efficient metro system and trams (I love trams). From ruin pubs to the thermal baths, Budapest has much to offer in winter, although I can safely say it is one of the coldest places I've ever been (-14 at the worst). One thing I would say, is that I struggled to locate the exact centre of the city, an epicentre seemingly evading me. Szechenyi Baths was by far the best experience I had in Hungary. Chilling in exterior, 30 degree pools whilst the temperature is below -10 is a surreal experience. As you can see from one of the shots below, the steam envelops the patrons and creates a lovely mirage for photography! I stayed with my friend Andrej and his girlfriend Anete in their flat in Rakoczi Ter, which is actually a terrific location for getting around and is full of quirky bars and cafes (and a fancy metro station built with EU money). Let me know if you're planning on heading to Budapest and I can give you some more tailored advice!
London has now been home for around 7 years, and it is full to the brim with interesting architecture, shapes and quirks that it would take a lifetime to discover. From the harsh brutalist lines of the Barbican to the modernity of City Hall, London has it all. The shots in this album are varied in their locations and in their style. Like any enduring capital city, the stark contrasts between eras and the societal mood are all too ubiquitous, and this presents many photographic opportunities that would be simply impossible in sterile and youthful places such as Singapore or Dubai. I want to see a city's journey through time, how it was adapted to reflect mood, functionality and even necessity.
London Fashion Weekend
A while ago, I managed to get the fantastic opportunity to shoot at London Fashion Weekend. Here are some selected highlights.
